About The Prosecco Desk

You searched Prosecco. You just found her.

We are the Proseccotists. We were not born in the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. We adopted them.

What won us over was not one bottle. It was a habit. In the bars of the Veneto, men and women of every age stop for a coffee and a glass of Prosecco, all day long, as easily as breathing. It is the most civilised thing we have ever seen, and we have been trying to bottle that feeling ever since.

Who we are

The Prosecco Desk is published by the team behind Bella Principessa Prosecco. We make our own wine, and we write about everyone else's. We would rather you know that from the first line than discover it later.

What this site is for

Prosecco is one of the most popular wines in the world and one of the least understood. Behind the label are hundreds of families, co-operatives and estates, some going back centuries. Most of them have websites that say very little. We think they deserve better.

So we are writing a page for every producer we can find: who they are, what they make, what it costs, where to buy it and how to visit. Each page is a love letter with opinions. Our aim is to grow the category, not to knock anyone down.

How we work

  • Facts come from sources. Producer sites, the consortia, critics, importers and retailers. Every page lists them and shows when we last checked.
  • We say whose opinion it is. Tasting notes come from the producer or a critic, and we say which. When we taste a wine ourselves, we will say so and date it.
  • Nobody pays to be listed. Producers do not pay us, and we do not take payment for placement. If that ever changes for a page, the page will say "Sponsored".
  • Our own wines are labelled as ours. Bella Principessa has its own page in the directory, clearly marked as ours. We do not rank ourselves in anyone else's story.
  • We fix mistakes. If you see something wrong, or you are the producer and want to add a fact, tell us through the Contact page and we will correct it.

Prices

We give euro prices from the winery or an Italian retailer, with a rough dollar figure. Shelf prices in the US and UK run higher once shipping, duties and margins are added.
