A Vittorio Veneto family winery, organic since 1997, with its own resealable cap. Camùl, the Gold DOCG line and Villa Teresa, plus shop hours.
| Vini Tonon |
A Vittorio Veneto family that went organic in 1997 and then, not content with the vineyard, gave its Prosecco a stopper you can put back.
Carpesica is a frazione of Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso. Pietro Tonon founded a winery here, on Via Carpesica, in 1936. His son Loris carried it on, and the business is still in the family's hands. Tonon is a member of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Consorzio, the growers' body for the DOCG hills, and the shop door is open six days a week.
What makes Tonon worth a page of its own is two decisions. In 1997 the family began farming organically for its Villa Teresa wines, which makes it an early mover. And it has its own proprietary closure for sparkling wine, the Metico, which you can reseal.

The story
Tonon runs three brands, and each one answers a different question. Camùl is the top line, from a single vintage and the best hill sites. The Gold line is classic Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG. Villa Teresa is the organic Prosecco DOC, certified by ICEA in Italy and under the USDA's National Organic Program for export to the United States. A quick decoder: DOCG is the hill zone between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene; DOC is the much larger area across the Veneto and Friuli. Tonon makes both.
The Metico closure is the family's most original idea. It is a proprietary resealable stopper for sparkling bottles. The producer says it keeps the fizz in once opened and lets the bottle be used again.
There is more. An on-site barrel cellar, the bottaia, ages Camùl's still wines in oak. The DOCG "Corda" frizzante has its string-tied cork knotted by hand. And Tonon also bottles wine under its clients' own labels, which means you may have drunk it without knowing.
What to drink
Tonon publishes no sugar figures and has no online shop.
Camùl Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Millesimato Brut. The flagship. Millesimato means all the grapes come from one vintage; Brut means dry. The producer says the grapes come from its best hill sites. We found no reliable price.
Camùl Valdobbiadene DOCG Millesimato Extra Dry. The same line in the softer style. Extra Dry is sweeter than Brut, despite what the words suggest. We found no price.
Gold line, Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG (Extra Dry, Brut and Extra Brut). Three sweetness levels from the same hills. Extra Brut is the driest of the three, Extra Dry the softest. The producer promises elegance and a fine, persistent bubble. We found no price.
Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG Frizzante "Corda". Frizzante is the gently sparkling style, with less pressure than spumante. The string tied around the cork is done by hand. We found no price.
Villa Teresa Prosecco DOC Frizzante Biologico. Organic, vegan, ICEA-certified, and sealed with the Metico. In Ontario the LCBO lists it at C$16.95 (product 544056). Canadian critics Anthony Gismondi and Natalie MacLean have reviewed it. There is also a Villa Teresa Extra Dry spumante, also organic, for which we found no price.
Prices: euro prices are what the winery or an Italian retailer charges, with a rough dollar figure at about $1.14 to the euro (October 2026). In the US, expect more on the shelf once shipping, the 15% tariff on EU wine, importer and distributor margins and taxes are added. For Tonon we found no euro shelf price, and no confirmed US one.
Where it fits
Like Giavi, Tonon is a family estate that does things its own way: Giavi with a slow second fermentation, Tonon with organic farming and a cap of its own. If you care about organic farming, Villa Teresa has a longer record than most. If you want a DOCG from a family that has run the place since 1936, Camùl is the one to ask for. And if you are the person who never finishes the bottle, the Metico was made for you.
Where to buy
- At the winery: the on-site shop sells the range.
- Canada: Villa Teresa is at the LCBO in Ontario. The agents are Churchill Cellars (Ontario) and The Delf Group (British Columbia).
- US and UK: we found no importer or confirmed retailer. If you know one, tell us.
Visiting
The shop is at the winery on Via Carpesica. It opens Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 19:00, and on Saturday morning from 8:00 (the winery says until 12:30, the Consorzio says 12:00). Tastings are offered at the winery; contact them to book, on +39 0438 920004 or at info@vinitonon.com. Staff speak English and German.
