A grocery favourite with a short, sensible Prosecco list, a house-favourite Parini, and one big catch: not in New York.
Wegmans has a devoted following, and plenty of its fans assume they can pick up a bottle of Prosecco with the groceries. Whether you can depends entirely on which state you're standing in. Where Wegmans does sell wine, the Prosecco list is short and friendly: La Marca, Mionetto, Ruffino, Cupcake, and Parini, a Veneto Prosecco that Wegmans rates on its own scoring scale. Prices run from about $10 to $20.
Why New York Wegmans don't sell wine
New York law doesn't allow grocery stores to sell wine, so Wegmans stores in New York carry none. It's not a Wegmans decision, and no amount of asking at customer service will change it. Pennsylvania changed its rules and Wegmans stores there have sold wine since 2016. Virginia stores sell wine too. In New Jersey, wine is sold through separately licensed "Wine, Liquor & Beer at Wegmans" shops. Wegmans also operates in Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Washington, DC and Delaware, but we couldn't confirm the wine rules at those stores, so check with yours.

Best under $15: Parini Prosecco Brut, about $13.79 with Shoppers Club. Labelled Brut, so on the drier side, and the card price brings it under $14.
Best DOCG: we didn't find a Prosecco Superiore DOCG at Wegmans. If your store has one, it isn't showing online.
Best Rosé: Parini Prosecco Rosé Brut. Wegmans' own rating scheme gives it 91. That's the store's scale rather than an independent critic's, but it's the only score on the shelf.
Best for a party: La Marca Prosecco 1.5L. Listed at the Manalapan, NJ store. A magnum pours about ten glasses.
If you see it, buy it: Mionetto Prosecco Brut, about $13.79. A Brut from a big name at a fair price, and an easy match for whatever's in the prepared-food aisle.
Exclusives and private labels
Parini comes from the House of Lamberti in the Veneto, according to Wegmans, and it carries Wegmans' own "Wegmans Rated" scores. It shows up mostly at Wegmans, but we found no source saying it's exclusive. A blogger lists it as a Prosecco DOC at $16.99; Wegmans' own page doesn't state the appellation.
Buying tips
- Check the card price. On Instacart, Parini Brut was $2.30 cheaper with Shoppers Club.
- Prosecco Rosé is a DOC wine. It's Glera with a little Pinot Nero for colour, and the rules say it must carry a vintage year, so look for the date on the label.
- Minis for a picnic. Parini comes in 187ml bottles, a glass and a half each.
